Betla National Park Jharkhand – Famous Animal | Contact Number | Hotels

Betla National Park or Betla Forest is located in Jharkhand state’s Betla village in Latehar district. It was one of the national parks in India to come under Project Tiger. Palamu Tiger Reserve extends over a square of 1014 km and Park spreads over a square of 226 km. BETLA is an acronym for Bison, Elephant, Tiger, Leopard and Axis, declared a national park in 1986. Basically, the famous animal of Betla National Park is tiger but it has become rare to see this animal in the present days.

Mammals: Elephants, Sambhar Deer, Leopard, Wild Boar, Pangolin, Tigers, Sloth Bears, Panther, Wolf, Jackal, Gaur, Hyena, Chital, Monkeys, Langurs, Nilgai, Kakar, Mouse Deer.

Birds: Forest owlet, papeeha, red jingle fowl, Harial, Dove, Drongo, Peafowl, Hornbill, Patridge, Black ibis, Wgatail,Quail, Geese, Snipe, Cotton teal, Knob-billed duck.

Best Time to Visit Betla Forest

It remains open all year round, apart from breeding months. The likelihood of seeing animals is greater in the months of May and June. The ideal time for tourists is when the heat is moderate here in the winter season from November to April.

How to Reach Betla National Park?

By Air: Birsa Munda Airport is the closest airport. Betla is 140 kilometres from Ranchi. It brings together major cities such as Patna, Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai. There are taxis available to go to the national park from here.

By Rail: The nearest railway station is Barwadih. It’s 8 kilometres away. Daltonganj, 24 km from here, is the second nearest railway station.

By Road: All major cities are well connected to the park. The adjacent city is Daltonganj, 20 km away.
